Wherwell Priory

A quintessential British 2,000 acre Estate in the heart of Hampshire, offering Driven Shooting, Chalkstream Trout Fishing and Deer Stalking

Nestled in the heart of Hampshire, Wherwell Estate spans an impressive 2,000 acres and embodies a British sporting Estate. Located between Andover and Stockbridge, this picturesque estate is a haven for field sports enthusiasts, offering a variety of activities just 90 minutes from London.

The Estate boasts a rich history, much of its sporting success owed to Sir Richard Gifford, who, in the 17th century, invested significantly in enhancing the agricultural and woodland areas, laying the groundwork for its current landscape. The focus on sporting activities was renewed in the 19th century, when the estate flourished as a prominent destination for field sports. In recent years, Wherwell Estate has continued to evolve with a strong emphasis on sporting activities and substantial investment, balancing the preservation of its historical heritage with modern conservation practices. The estate’s natural beauty and abundant wildlife continues to attract sportsmen and women from across the country and beyond, making it a premier location for field sports.

DRIVEN PHEASANT AND PARTRIDGE SHOOT

Covering approximately 2,000 acres, the Pheasant and Partridge Shoot takes full advantage of the estate’s native woods and rolling agricultural ground. The estate boasts fifteen designated drives, featuring exhilarating Red-legged partridge and some very fine pheasants also. A typical shooting day for a team of eight or nine guns includes four drives, starting with coffee, tea, and bacon rolls, followed by a safety briefing and drawing of pegs. A hearty elevenses is served in the field, with lunch at the shoot barn after the third or fourth drive, tailored to the team’s preferences. The newly remodelled Shoot Barn serves as the central meeting place.

DEER STALKING

The premier stalking area encompasses over 700 acres of semi-ancient, native mixed-leaved forest in Harewood Forest. Deer management is a crucial part of our Woodland Management Plan. Surrounding the forest are an additional 1,300 acres of arable land, some designated as wild bird conservation zones.
