William Powell Schools Clay Shooting Competition

Press Release: 3rd May 2018

On the 2nd May the William Powell Schools Clay Shooting Competition returned to the Oxfordshire Shooting School for the second time. The day was hugely enjoyable with some fantastic clay shooting from all involved.

This event involved six schools with fourteen teams namely Denstone College, Millfield School, King’s High School (Warwick), Pangbourne College, Kingham Hill School and Cokethorpe School.

The event started with a delicious hog roast before all of the teams headed onto the ground. Teams consisted of four students in the same category and all teams were caddied around the layout by an Oxfordshire Shooting School representative.

The competition was made up of a 60 bird sporting layout shot over 8 stands and included a 60 bird team flush sponsored by Gamebore Cartridges. The red course was shot by seniors (age 15 to 19) and the blue course was shot by juniors (under 15).

Huge congratulations to everyone who took part. High Gun was awarded to Archie Osborne of Pangbourne with a fantastic score of 54 out of 60. Millfield (B Team) won Senior High Gun Team with a superb score of 243. Cokethorpe Senior (A Team) won the Ladies Senior High Gun with a score of 187. Hannah Whitaker of Cokethorpe was awarded Ladies High Gun with an impressive score of 50 out of 60. Ivor Fothergill from Kingham Hill won the Junior High Gun with 51 out of 60. All winners were each awarded with a shield and a supply of Gamebore Cartridges.

William Powell would like to say a huge thank you to The Oxfordshire Shooting School who hosted this amazing event and Gamebore Cartridges who sponsored the flush which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

All of the results can be found on the Oxfordshire Shooting School’s website:
